Goodreads Synopsis:
Hailey’s dreams have always been, well...vivid. As in monsters from her nightmares follow her into her waking life vivid.
When her big sister goes missing, eighteen-year-old Hailey finds the only thing keeping her safe from a murderous 3,000-year-old beast is an equally terrifying creature who has fallen “madly” in love with her. Competing to win her affection, the Dream Creature, Asher, lures her to the one place that offers safety—a ParaScience university in Alaska he calls home. There, she studies the science of the supernatural and must learn to live with a roommate from Hell, survive her ParaScience classes, and hope the only creature who can save her from an evil immortal doesn’t decide to kill her himself.

Review:
***I received a
physical copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review***
My initial reaction of holy c*** was all you could get out
of me for hours after staying up late to finish this amazing book and even now,
it sums up my mental state pretty well! Dark and suspenseful, hilarious and
quirky are not pairings you’d expect to mix well together, yet McCoy has done so
effortlessly in this gripping novel that had me on the edge of my seat one
minute and then giggling the next.
Bookworms that swelled from too much tea and howled when
they didn’t have a novel in their hands (something uncannily relatable…) and clothes
that moved of their own free will are just some of the things thrown in to make
your day brighter. Then there are the soul wrenching moments (oh the unintentional
pain from my pun!) that made me care so much about the protagonist Hailey – you
can’t not like her, as Giselle her reluctant non-human friend comes to
experience. The relationships she had with her family were genuine and then the
ones she developed with Asher and Finn were brilliant.
The romances in this book are... dysfunctional to put it
lightly! We have Asher who both loves and wants to kill Hailey, some of the time, which makes him act both
creepy obsessive and romantic. (He is not a good guy, with fair reason
considering his origins, but he proved himself when push came to shove (I’m
just killing myself with these word choices *goes to grieve in corner*)
Then we also have Finn who is a womanizing douche
controlled, some of the time, by more
powerful douches intent on killing Hailey, which makes him act like an adorable
idiot. Out of the two I honestly can’t say who I want her to end up with –
though she is quite fine on her own. After that ending everything is up in the
air burned to ashes anyway, along with my sanity.
For me the most obvious sign of a good book is one I want to
re-read so it seems only fair to label Eerie an awesome book when I want to read it all over again immediately!
